Before surgery, a special CT scan of your hip, knee, and ankle is taken to create a high-resolution 3D digital model of your knee.This allows your surgeon to see the exact shape, wear pattern, and alignment of your joint — far more accurately than X-rays. At the start of surgery, small trackers are gently attached to your thigh and shin. These act like GPS sensors that allow the robotic system to track your knee’s movement in real time. Your surgeon then maps and confirms key bony landmarks on your knee. This process is called registration, and it ensures that the computer’s 3D model perfectly matches your actual knee on the operating table. Next, your knee is gently moved through its full range of motion. This allows the system to measure ligament tightness and balance dynamically — meaning how your tissues behave while the knee is moving, not just while lying still. Using all this data, your surgeon fine-tunes: • Implant size • Position and alignment • Soft-tissue balance The goal is a knee that feels stable, smooth, and natural when you walk, bend, or climb stairs.

During the operation, a robotic arm guides your surgeon while preparing the bone. The robotic system uses haptic technology, which acts like an intelligent virtual boundary. It allows the surgeon to remove bone only where it was planned and gently resists or stops movement outside the safe zone. This is especially important around the PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament). Haptics help preserve the bone around the PCL footprint on the tibia, which allows the PCL to be protected and maintained — something that is difficult to achieve with conventional instruments.
